Winter in Romania

The temperature on Thursday was -20C (that's -4F, folks!) - The days are dark and cold - The air is sharp and biting - The snow is falling, and falling, and falling - The trees are covered with ice - The morning walks are longer and harder - The classrooms are chilly - The walks to the market are farther apart - The trains in the distance are harder to hear through the falling flakes - The views across the river are blocked by snow and fog.

and yet...

The children are happy: they seem immune to the temperature - The shrieks of laughter ring through the cold air - The snowballs fly - The teachers huddle at the windows watching, shaking their heads - The hot chocolate is plentiful in my kitchen - The (many) blankets on my bed create a warm cocoon - The Ugg boots keep my feet toasty warm (best purchase ever!!) - The days are getting longer - The stars are beginning to peak through the night clouds - The sun shines through the fog on Friday  - The winter in Romania is truly beautiful!

"winter slumbering in the open air, wears on his smiling face a dream of Spring!"

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

  2. I'm releived to hear that you're doing okay in that frigid weather, Barbara. You certainly seem to be making the best of it. BTW, -20C is -4F, not 4F. I hope that fact doesn't make it feel even colder to you!

  4. Thank you Barbara! I am Romanian I am very glad that a foreigner got to ´´see ´´ what I remember when I think about winters in my country!
I still remember when I came out at night and could see all the sorroundings as made of sugar and the trees as made of glass!
Very beautiful pictures, please try to get some at night!
